OfferUp

Product Design

"I designed an instant mobile storefront that helped local businesses be found, build trust, and drive demand."

Carlos Roldan

The Opportunity

OfferUp's marketplace reached 44 million annual users spending more than 20 minutes a day in recommerce. Local businesses wanted access to that audience to drive foot traffic and generate leads, but OfferUp had no product built for them. Building tools for local business aligned with the marketplace's core value proposition, opened a path to monetizing existing traffic, and set direction toward a longer-term vision of facilitating local business transactions.

The Build

Owned strategy, competitive analysis, user journey, and interaction design end to end, from early concept through interactive prototype. Designed a two-sided system: an instant mobile storefront with in-app chat and click-to-call so buyers could connect directly with local businesses, and a web admin portal where business owners managed their presence and could launch one-click promotions to boost visibility and engagement.

The Outcome

Launched an MVP in Seattle: 65 advertisers, 110 live ads, $1,500 in daily ad spend, averaging $23 per advertiser. The direct-contact features and one-click promotions gave both sides of the marketplace an easy way to act, turning browsing into real demand.
